Homeschool Memoir ~ snacks

This weeks theme is:

Awhile back Mother Dear received a question on what snack foods to buy for homeschooling families, on the go or at home, and she inspired this week’s theme. There are so many different kinds of snack foods, store-bought and homemade, and I would like to invite you to share what snack foods your family usually snacks on throughout the week. You’re welcome to make season lists too. I know there are different meals we eat during the colder seasons than we do in the warmer ones, and I imagine there are also seasonal snack foods as well.

In May I really made an effort to improve our family’s eating habits by eating more natural, organic, and tradional foods.  So, I can’t wait to see what every one serves their children.  I must admit our snacks aren’t the healthiest, but I am going to strive to work on this….

Our Snacks consists of….

Hot Aired Popcorn

crackers with organic peanut butter

peanuts with the shell

graham crackers

granola ~ this is a favorite for breakfast, too

My boys only drink water.  No kool aid or artificial sweetener drinks.  This has always been the case in our house.  Of course, they are allowed to have (raw) milk with meals.  So, that’s our snacks ~ pretty boring, huh!

  1. No, not boring at all! I think the water thing is an excellent idea! I have a 17-year-old who doesn’t like to eat much…even now. He doesn’t even care for snacks or pop. I’d LIKE to think it was the excellent (LOL) training as a child. Alas, he didn’t like to eat then–hated everything—and so I guess I can’t take the credit for now. (He does like ice cream and McDs however. —gag on the McDs.)

  2. I don’t think it’s boring at all. We have been trying to eat more organic as well. Love that Kashi! We have a rule about having milk or tea with meals and only water in between. When my kiddos do get a soda at a party or something it’s a real treat lol.

  3. Thanks for the granola recipe. We’ll have to try it out. My daughter prefers water and I like it that way. 🙂

  4. We don’t do the kool-aid route either. We do milk and juices and water (and the occasional smoothie).

  5. Pretty yummy! Water is the best. My kids only get Water, Juice, some milk ( we don’t do well on milk ).

  6. Homemade bread with blueberry jam, toast with butter and cinnamon and raw milk cheese from a local farm are our most common snacks. Sometimes, if he’s really hungry, he asks for leftovers from the night before. Seriously.

  7. We are also granola fans — I’ll be checking out your recipe! 😀
We only drink water here too. I have 2 kids that don’t really appreciate that and 2 that would choose water over anything else. I wish we could get raw milk somewhere nearby!

  8. I have a son who only drinks water 🙂

  9. Those snacks sound healthy to me! 😀 That is great that the kids want water. We usually have Crystal Lite type drink, juice, milk or water.

  10. Amen on the Kool-Aid, HATE that stuff!! It goes straight through my girls anyway!

Thanks for the granola recipe, will have to check that one out! =)

Great list of snacks, Jill, not boring at all!
