WFMW ~ at home activities

Summer is here!  And even thought my boys are with me 24/7, we have more leisure time now than during our home school months.   But, I truly love it.

Please note:  I do not let my boys play the play station or watch TV all day.  I limit TV until after 4 pm.  They are only allowed to play the playstation for 30 min per day as long as their chores are completed to my satisfaction.   Oh ~ I forgot to mention ~ they must be done with a cheerful attitude, too.  Yes, I am the mean mommy on the block!  LOL!

One of the best investments that we have made has been purchasing one of those big blue pools.  My dh did the research and thought that Academy had the best quality and pricing, but that was a few years ago. My boys have thoroughly enjoyed it and have played hours each day splashing and being rugrats.  Also, it’s great for play dates, too.  They are outside not inside.  LOL!

Second, I require the boys to read for 30 min each day.  Suggest a series ~ Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Hank the Cowdog, etc.  This will inspire them to want to read the next one and so on……  Have them do a fun project after reading the book.  Not your usual Book Reports here.

My boys are working on making their own web page.  Check this out.  Then they will teach Mommy.  LOL!

Lastly, my creative friend Amy had a fabulous idea.  Read her post here.  This will encourage learning during computer time.  I set one up for my boys awhile ago.  They each have computer time daily.  They are only allowed to view the designated links that I have on the blog roll.  Pick topics of interest.

See what other Mamas do to stay sane during the summer months at Rocksinmydryers.

    I love the book ideas!

  2. Great ideas. My oldest is lobbying Daddy hard for a big blue pool. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention all the “benefits” of a bigger pool. I think he’s wearing him down, pretty good. 🙂

  3. we do something similar with our son in regards to visual media. i don’t let him watch tv, play video games or use the computer (except school-related) during the school week. weekends and holidays are limited to 3 hours max., and reading time is a daily requirement. thanks for the great ideas!

  4. Thanks for all the links, Jill! Especially the one for the pools. We are scouting around right now so this really helps! :o)

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Love,
    Julie
